I’m not really sure how good I am at the whole creating an outfit thing but I’m giving it another try today. I started out going for a completely different look and then I found that scarf… then the new J. Crew catalog with it’s scintillating selection of vibrantly hued cashmere got thrown in the mix. Anyway, I’d wear it… and isn’t that the important thing?

I saw this room while I was surfing Pinterest. I followed the links to La Dolce Vita’s blog where it was shown as part of the This Or That feature. The home office belongs to Lauren Gold of Nate Berkus Associates and was featured in the July/August issue of Lonny last summer. The whole apartment is amazing but this office just… Wow! Right?

I’m off to work now. I’m trying my hand at fashion tomorrow. You’ll have to let me know if I’m hopeless with that. Have a happy Tuesday, everyone!

I haven’t always been a fan of the color yellow. In fact, at one point I was all about neutrals and all other colors be darned! Thankfully, I’m way more open to color now. Good thing too; there are some awesome products in some really amazing hues these days. This part lemony, part yolky bright yellow is adorning a lot of cool things from clothes to interiors. So yeah, I’m a bit obsessed with yellow right now. How about you? What colors are you craving?

I was surfing Pinterest today and I saw this picture from the blog A Beautiful Mess. It made me smile. You see, I wanted to be an artist when I was young. I took took art classes and spent my pocket change on sketchbooks and art supplies.

After I had used a few different kinds of mediums, I fell madly in love with oil pastels. They were easy to use and so much fun to work with. I loved the colors! But the best part was how tactile it was. Using pastels is like fingerpainting. I would have pigment all over me, not just on my paper! I didn’t care though. I thought the mess was as cool as the rest of it.

I think reason why I enjoy interiors so much is because it reminds me quite a bit of using pastels. It can be vibrant or muted, tactile, and messy… But the end result? Yeah, that makes me smile.

This is one of the condos in a project called The Sanctuary. The units are in what used to be a church in the Seattle area. I love the architectural details that are left over from the original building. The units were open to the public but I missed that. What a sadness! It would’ve be great to see everything that’s been done to turn this old church into a functioning place again.

Downton Abbey is a Masterpiece Classic show that plays on PBS. A lot of my fellow design bloggers are gaga over this show, they love everything about it from plot to production design. So, while I was at my sister’s house last week, I decided to check out the episodes that were available on Netflix.

It was a little slow getting into it but by the second episode I was hooked. The setup is that an aristocratic English family whose estate is entailed. They have arranged a marriage between their oldest daughter and the nearest male relation, a cousin that we find out has died in the sinking if the Titanic. With his death, the families hope of retaining the estate, money, and title goes out the window. The show takes off from there.

This is a very well produced, written, and acted upstairs, downstairs drama with The family and their staff is wonderfully played some very fine actors, including the venerable Maggie Smith. It’s a delight to watch the interactions between the different social strata during a time with classic was a very important consideration in social circles. It seems the production team has made a real effort to get period details right.

Only seven episodes were available on Netflix, so I didn’t see the whole first season but I’m definitely looking forward to checking out the rest of this series… As I told one of my blogging buddies, “OK, OK! I get it!”.

The second season is airing now on PBS and as I mentioned before, the first seven episodes of season one is available to stream on Netflix. I totally recommend it if you’re the type that likes period dramas, you won’t be disappointed!

Penguin Classics has reissued books by F. Scott Fitzgerald with the snazzy, jazz age inspired covers designed by Coralie Bickford-Smith. I found out about them by reading the SpaceSays blog. There are six in all; you can find them on amazon.co.uk.

I was introduced to Help Remedies by Moo Cards. Their philosophy is to make taking medicine as simple and uncomplicated as possible. To that end they offer medications for common problems in straightforward, biodegradable packaging, each with only one active ingredient, and with short easy to read text explaining what you’d take it for. Right now they have about 7 products and a portion of every sale goes to charities for children in need of medical care.

Speaking of Moo… They are an awesome outfit that gives anyone the tools they need to brand themselves with business cards, postcards, stickers, and labels. Their printing service offers something they call Printfinity, which allows the user to have a different image or design on each card in the order. Too add value to the easy to customize products they offer is the fact that it’s super inexpensive – prices start at $19.99/100 cards (shipping is extra… but reasonable). Bonus points for checking out how this crafter uses Moo to distinguish her brand.

Also, I’ve become more active on Pinterest. I’ve been signed on for a while but I’ve never really used it because of the whole Android phone as computer thing I’ve had going on for the last year or so. I recently found a third party app that lets me upload pics to my boards, so I’m having lots of fun with that!

I think I figures out part of the trouble with my images. So finally, a complete post for you… years later. Hopefully, it’ll be a long time before I have this kind of issue again. See you Monday with a new media review. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
