Totally Inspiring Room

Nadja Swarovski’s London living room (2006).

This is the living room of Nadja Swarovski’s London apartment (c. 2006). It was featured in Elle Decor and instantly became one of my favorite rooms. Some of the standout details for me are the trellis molding on the ceiling, the creamy bettered with their rose red pillows, and the monolithic black lacquer coffee table floating on the beautiful carpet. It’s the perfect mix of modern and traditional elegance, don’t you think?

Totally Inspiring Room

Design by Colette van den Thillart in House & Home.

I haven’t put a room up in a while… I’ve seen things that I thought were nice but nothing that was knocking me out. I saw this while surfing Pinterest and I thought it was something I wouldn’t mind putting up here to share with you.

I love the bold color on the wall, the zing of green in the faux bois rug, the sinuous and glossy white tables, and the overall calm of the aesthetic. I love the air of the unexpected that is found in every part of the room. This is one for the inspiration file!

Hope all is well in your world! See you next time. :-)

From Pinterest via sfgirlbybay.

Victoria from sfgirlbybay pinned this picture yesterday on Pinterest and it struck a chord. I absolutely adore the floors in the foreground. My dream home will have black chevron/herringbone floors! The vintage globe, midcentury chairs, and and pink hallway are all nice touches too.

Have a great Tuesday everyone. :-)

This is one of the condos in a project called The Sanctuary. The units are in what used to be a church in the Seattle area. I love the architectural details that are left over from the original building. The units were open to the public but I missed that. What a sadness! It would’ve be great to see everything that’s been done to turn this old church into a functioning place again.

Happy Tuesday, everyone!

Better late than never, today’s edition of totally inspiring room is brought to you by the happy, colorful genius of Palmer Weiss. The mix of new, old, color, playfulness, and unstudied elegance is just right. This is another room I could walk into without changing a thing.

Happy belated Tuesday, all. See you tomorrow… hopefully much earlier!

From House & Home via Belle Maison.

This is the mantel of photographer Francois Halard. I fell in love with this pic when saw it posted on Belle Maison last week.

I love the mix of sizes and textures; they provide a wealth of visual interest, leading the eye along from treasure to treasure. Nothing feels too precious though.

Not sure where I found this… surfing as usual. What do I like about it? The soft, feminine, comfortable vibe. Nice touches include: the pastel violet lamp on the nightstand, the old world settee, the oversized floral above the bed, and the sweet, drapey shade on the window. Yeah, soft and lovely. Definitely something to aspire to. Though if I’m honest, I know I’d have to throw some edge in there somewhere… like a high gloss dresser in dark olive green. Right now olive green and pale violey with gold accents is totally rocking my boat… but I digress!

Check you tomorrow, peoples, when I reveal my painted lamps (sans shades). Until then!

The weather here in Charlotte is so changeable, one moment bright and sunny, the next somber and rainy. Today it is sunny and cool but rain is forecast. Being a native Seattleite I’ve learned to carry an umbrella everywhere, no matter where I live… so I’m prepared.

The weather has me thinking about cozy corners like this one. As soon as I saw this picture, I fell instantly in love. There are so many things in this little spot that satisfy my tastes: the comfy armchair covered in a bold, feminine fabric, the dark floors, the exotic looking non-traditional stone of the fire surround, and lots of pretty little touches in the accessories.

I hope you’re having an amazing Tuesday everyone! See you tomorrow… with the pillows I had made to coordinate with the office chair. Until then!

Could a room be any room be sunnier looking than this ode to yellow? It’s a nice shot of happiness during this season of cold, gray, rainy and snowy weather. This is the kind of room that cheers the spirit no matter what the season.

Some standout points of interest for me: the hits of black throughout that keep the room grounded, little bits of shine, and the flame orange art on the far wall. The whole space looks comfortable, happy, and pulled together. It’s definitely a totally inspiring room!

On a side note: the office chair has a fresh coat of Krylon’s Satin Nickel spray paint on it’s frame. In a bit I’m going to head over to Walmart to get a staple gun so I can get the fabric on… hopefully today!

The truth is that the weather here in Charlotte has been very kind this Autumn. Daytime temps are usually in the mid to high sixties lately. I don’t know if that’s normal or not… I just know it’s nice!

But the evenings… definitely Fall temperatures! Somewhere in the forties or lower (though, so far, not below freezing). On these cool nights, I think of rooms like this one: small, dark, cozy and inviting. The kind of room that practically begs you to wrap up in a throw, turn on the lamp, and curl up with your favorite book… preferably with a hot cup of tea to hand. The design definitely speaks to the part of me that is used to long months of overcast skies and cool weather.

There isn’t one thing I don’t like about it: the deep window seat piled with pillows, low tables covered with books, art filling the walls, the dark, saturated color on every surface. It’s beautiful and intimate; a perfect getaway inside of the home. We should all be so lucky to have one of those!

I dont have any info about the room this today.  If anyone can tell me who designed this room or where it was published, that’d be great! I hope everyone is having an awesome day today. I’m feeling a bit under the weather… but hopefully that just means I’m getting my yearly cold out of the way. :-) See you tomorrow!
