The One That Got Away…

image

Dining room from Rue magazine (l) and chair currently for sale on Etsy (r).

I bought a desk not long after I returned to the Seattle area. It is a lovely CL find that I fell in love with as soon as I laid eyes on it. It needs some TLC and a nice desk chair to make feel less lonely.

So I searched and searched and somewhere along the way I had the brilliant idea that it needed to be a more modern chair, preferably with a brass finish… And I found this:

"Modern Glam Chair" from Gallivanting Girls on Etsy.

It’s brass. It’s modern. It’s beautiful. It’s also out of my part time job price range at $180. I resign myself to the fact that I’m probably going to be a wish monster galore on this one…

A couple of weeks later, I head over to Rue Magazine and lo, and behold! There is this swank little room with not one but two of those very perfect chairs. They are chrome (and not brass) but still the lovely modernist shape and with better fabric to boot.

Dining space from the February 2012 issue of Rue Magazine.

Someone out there is like me and wants this chair badly. They saw that spread in Rue too… And they can’t get their mind off of the beauty and perfection of those chairs. They want them and they’ve been searching but they can’t find them. Well, at last here it is. Solo, yes… but one is better than none. Grab it while you can. 🙂

The Dylan House and Emerson House doll houses by Brinca Dada @ Velocity Art & Design.

Velocity Art & Design tweeted about these Brinca Dada doll houses a few days ago and I think they are cooler than cool. If I was a kid I’d be begging my mom for one of these… or trying to figure out how to make one on my own. Both doll houses can be purchased with or without the furniture (modern and minimal).

Schwinn Meridian 26″ Adult Tricycle in Silver, $280 @ Walmart.com (shipping to your nearest store is free and they’ll assemble the bike for you).

I’ve always loved bikes. Living in San Diego gave me an appreciation for the old school cruiser style bike. Getting older gives me an appreciation for not having to keep me and the bike upright. Here is the perfect mix: the Schwinn Meridian adult tricycle with the good looks of a cruiser (including a front basket) and the stability of three wheels. Sporty frock and lap dog not included.

Lomography Diana + Dreamer camera, $65 and the Leni Lounge chair, $80 @ Urban Outfitters.

The Diana + Dreamer Camera is a thing of beauty. I’d feature it here for that reason alone but it also happens to be a favorite with photography nuts everywhere. This little wonder is definitely on my wish list. The Leni Lounge chair was a surprising find while perusing Urban Outfitters. It has a nice shape, color, and material and looks like it’d cozy up nicely with a few pillows and a throw. Catch this one quick! It’s in the sale section.

Prints by Theater Clouds @ Etsy.

Anthology Magazine tweeted about the Theater Clouds shop earlier today. Elle McKay’s work was recently featured on Etsy. She takes photographs of hand drawn and built dioramas. The artwork featured was too good to keep to myself. See the Etsy feature here and her shop here.

That’s it for this week… a little light I know, but I’m just starting to get some wind back in my sails after being sick most of this week.

Have an awesome weekend, all! See you next week!

I was riding around town a few weeks ago on my way to the Arboretum mall when I saw a shop called Interiors Marketplace on the corner of an intersection not too far past the community college. It looked intriguing but I didn’t have time to stop. Later when I got home I looked them up online and found their website.

While I was there I discovered that IM had a sister store called Post & Gray… the picture of the front of the building, with its pretty gray paint, white logo, and citron yellow doors grabbed my attention! After looking through the gallery of currently available product I decided that I’d visit Post & Gray the very next weekend.

My mom and I made our way to the shop on a sunny but crisp Saturday afternoon. When we walked up the stairs the garage style door to the right of the stairs was open, letting the ample sunlight flood the front of the shop.

The space is large but not cavernous and filled with beautiful new, antique, and vintage furniture and home decor. As mom and I made a circuit around the store we saw folding screens, bath linens, gorgeous French Country style armchairs, oversized lamps and chandeliers, decorative objects, and beautiful fabrics. In every nook there was an interesting or beautiful piece to discover and coo over. Needless to say, by the time we completed our trip around the store we were bubbling with excitement about all that we’d seen!

If you live in the Charlotte area or will be visiting soon, I highly recommend you check out Post & Gray’s constantly evolving selection of furniture and home decor items. You wont be disappointed!
