Strange Librarian…

I totally admit that this is out of left field. To be honest I was planning on going in a different direction when I started playing around with the Etsy Treasury tool… but that green scarf had “crazy, scary, sexy librarian” written all over it and the rest is Etsy Treasury gold. Well, I think so anyway!

My inner Halloweenista has stepped out into the October night!

Prelude to Halloween? Maybe… Could just be insomnia. Check out the treasury and tell me what you think. Until next time!

Fall Foliage

I love this pretty fall colored dress with an oversized Calla Lily border print from Anthropologie, $$178.

Technically, Calla Lilys aren’t foliage but they are one of my favorite flowers with their creamy, white, sculptural lines. I came across this amazing dress while flipping through the new Anthropologie catalog. I love the colors (SO fall/autumn) and the lovely drape. I think this would make a great dress for a cocktail party…

Until next time!

Totally Inspiring Room

Nadja Swarovski’s London living room (2006).

This is the living room of Nadja Swarovski’s London apartment (c. 2006). It was featured in Elle Decor and instantly became one of my favorite rooms. Some of the standout details for me are the trellis molding on the ceiling, the creamy bettered with their rose red pillows, and the monolithic black lacquer coffee table floating on the beautiful carpet. It’s the perfect mix of modern and traditional elegance, don’t you think?

Totally Inspiring Room

Could a room be any room be sunnier looking than this ode to yellow? It’s a nice shot of happiness during this season of cold, gray, rainy and snowy weather. This is the kind of room that cheers the spirit no matter what the season.

Some standout points of interest for me: the hits of black throughout that keep the room grounded, little bits of shine, and the flame orange art on the far wall. The whole space looks comfortable, happy, and pulled together. It’s definitely a totally inspiring room!

On a side note: the office chair has a fresh coat of Krylon’s Satin Nickel spray paint on it’s frame. In a bit I’m going to head over to Walmart to get a staple gun so I can get the fabric on… hopefully today!

Got Rug? (The IKEA Edition)

If you’ve been following me for a bit, you know that I’m really picky about rugs. I find that lower end rugs tend lack the kind of style that I crave in a floor covering. So yesterday, after I got off work, I headed over to the textiles area at IKEA. I have to admit that textiles has become my favorite section at IKEA these days. They’ve got some really great stuff this year (a plethora of totally on trend items in purple/lavender being chief among them… but I digress). Anywho, I’m decided to see if they’d put any new rug styles up yet…

Whoa. I was struck by three styles in particular:

image
Gandrup rug (78″x118) IKEA – $299.

Graphic, black, gray, cream, and gold rug featuring stripes overlaid with an abstract daisy pattern. Love the chic color combo here! The really cool thing about this rug is that the color and pattern are crisp and clean, not murky or or muted like some IKEA rugs can be.

image
Broager rug (63″x94″) IKEA – $249.

This rug looks like a really cool gray in my pic (because of the lighting in the store) but is actually a warm, gray-brown with ivory flower sprays in the pattern. It is really lovely and soft in person. This would make a great choice for someone who wanted something with a feminine but clean edge to it.

Skoghall rug (78″x118″) IKEA – $249

The last rug is not offered in a colorway that I would usually get but it was so pretty, I had to share it here. This one has a rich, milky orange red (it literally reminds me of tomato soup) with a gorgeous abstracted flower pattern in a low contrast brown/tan. The tag says it is red/black but it definitely looked brownish tan in the showroom. The pattern on this is so beautiful! I wish they offered it in a cool colorway… like green and blue. Still, if you’re doing warm tones in your house this would be an awesome choice.

Have a great week! I hope your Monday is like a Friday! See you tomorrow. 🙂

Coffee and Books.

One of my private dreams (not so private anymore, eh?) is to open a small, elegant coffeehouse/reading room. Someplace comfortable and quiet that provides a great place to spend time with friends or to hang out with dear literary friends. (You know you’re on a first name basis with Lizzy, Emma, and Jane… Miss Eyre, I mean.)

If I had to pick the look I’d be going for in this dream space this would be it:

One of the many cozy lounge areas in the J.K. Place Hotels – via Lonny Magazine Oct/Nov 2010 (pg. 156).

I love the restraint here; everything is neutral, soothing, understated. The furniture looks soft and inviting, the decor is minimal, functional, and blends in with its surroundings. Even the lighting is low key!

Yeah, I’d probably have to copy this beautiful space wholesale for my dream cafe! What do you think? Could you see this look in a cafe or restaurant? How about your dining room? I’d love to know!

Totally Inspiring Room

Today’s room is very blue (one of my favorite colors)! The controlled chaos and saturated colors are what appeal to me here. I like how you can tell that these books are read even though the owner has them organized rather prettily. The hits of white and cream make the layered blues and warm wood tones pop. Not sure who the room is by… if you know, drop me a line!

Hope you all are having a fabulous Thursday. 🙂

All Reality Bites references* aside, springtime is nearly upon us and what better way to get out and enjoy the upcoming weather than on two (or three) wheels?

Here are some really nice looking, classic bicycles and tricycles to feast your eyes on (and from least to most expensive).

Bicycles:
Cream 3 Speed – Schwinn
Aluminum 5 Speed Unisex – Kronan
Granturismo Donna – Abici
Sonnet Bliss – Pashley

Tricycles:
Manhattan Trike – KHS Bicycles
Picador – Pashley

I would love to own the Abici bike but my budget is more in Schwinn territory! It’s definitely a goal of mine to buy one this year and when I get it, I’m going to add on a bell and basket to trick it out. Do you have a cruiser or adult tricycle? How have you knitted yours out?

*the title of this post is named after the band Ethan Hawke’s character was in in Reality Bites. If you like grungy garage music, check out their song (with Ethan really singing the vocals) from the soundtrack – I’m Nuthin’. And I think I just put an expiration date on myself with that!
