Fall Foliage

I love this pretty fall colored dress with an oversized Calla Lily border print from Anthropologie, $$178.

Technically, Calla Lilys aren’t foliage but they are one of my favorite flowers with their creamy, white, sculptural lines. I came across this amazing dress while flipping through the new Anthropologie catalog. I love the colors (SO fall/autumn) and the lovely drape. I think this would make a great dress for a cocktail party…

Until next time!

Carried Away

image

My favorite thing is a new bath and body fragrance from Bath & Body Works called Carried Away. I first tried some on just before Christmas while I was shopping for my Secret Santa recipient. I saw they had a few new scents and I tried on two: Paris Amour and Carried Away. I ended up buying my friend the classic and well loved Japanese Cherry Blossom.

Cut to last Friday, after leaving the Kent Station AMC (I saw Underworld: Awakening and Haywire), I decided to check out Bath & Body Works to see if they had any deals on. They did. But I wanted to make sure I was going to like how Carried Away smelled on me before I committed to full size bottles. I bought a set of travel bottles to test it out.

I’m very happy with the light fruity floral scent of this fragrance. I’m definitely going to for the full size bottles the next time I stop by Bath & Body Works.

I hope you’re all having a fantastic Thursday, I’ll catch you tomorrow. πŸ™‚

Pairs O’ Chairs

We got lots and lots of snow here in Seattle yesterday. I got to my storage and managed to get out enough of my knitting supplies to make the trip out worth my while. I spent a few hours both before and after that excursion reading Hugh Macleod’s Ignore Everybody : And 39 Other Keys To Creativity, retweeting SOPA/PIPA news, and surfing Craigslist in the hope of finding some inspirational project kinda stuff. I was not disappointed!

Here are some of the pieces I found and what I’d do with them:

image

This pair of wide “modern” chairs is going for $100. I could see them painted a bright cheery color with an ikat on the seats and a coordinating pillow in a graphic or floral pattern for the back cushion.

These chunky chairs are $75 for the pair. I like that they are low and visually heavy looking. I’d balance that out by sanding and bleaching the wood, then adding a neutral but textural fabric.

image

These “parlor” chairs are $75 for the pair! What a steal, right? They need some work (the caning needs repair) but for that price I just couldn’t bring myself to complain about it. Here I’d go with classic white and one of Caitlin Wilson’s fabulous floral.

These minty wonders are $125 for the pair. I love the upholstery’s wonderful color (so as long as closer inspection showed no wear), I’d leave that as is and just paint the frames a lighter color (something like this).

Any one of these marvelous sets of chairs would be cool to buy and project away on but… I’m just not at that point yet in Seatown. Plus, with the weather acting crazy and whatnot, I’m thinking more along the lines of sitting on the sofa and knitting.

Then again… tomorrow I may try to get out and explore a bit. Until then…

I’ve Got Sunshine On A Cloudy Day…

image

The office chair project elements are coming together! Yesterday I scored this sunny egg yolk yellow chevron patterned upholstery fabric for $8.99/yd. I know, right!? I also picked up the floral that is hanging above it because, what chair doesn’t need a happy little pillow on it? I’m going to paint the frame Benjamin Moore’s Portland Gray.

So hats the quick update for the day! I hope you all are making it over the hump… I’m trying. Hard. LOL! Happy Wednesday, everyone. I’ll catch you tomorrow. πŸ™‚

Got Rug? (The IKEA Edition)

If you’ve been following me for a bit, you know that I’m really picky about rugs. I find that lower end rugs tend lack the kind of style that I crave in a floor covering. So yesterday, after I got off work, I headed over to the textiles area at IKEA. I have to admit that textiles has become my favorite section at IKEA these days. They’ve got some really great stuff this year (a plethora of totally on trend items in purple/lavender being chief among them… but I digress). Anywho, I’m decided to see if they’d put any new rug styles up yet…

Whoa. I was struck by three styles in particular:

image
Gandrup rug (78″x118) IKEA – $299.

Graphic, black, gray, cream, and gold rug featuring stripes overlaid with an abstract daisy pattern. Love the chic color combo here! The really cool thing about this rug is that the color and pattern are crisp and clean, not murky or or muted like some IKEA rugs can be.

image
Broager rug (63″x94″) IKEA – $249.

This rug looks like a really cool gray in my pic (because of the lighting in the store) but is actually a warm, gray-brown with ivory flower sprays in the pattern. It is really lovely and soft in person. This would make a great choice for someone who wanted something with a feminine but clean edge to it.

Skoghall rug (78″x118″) IKEA – $249

The last rug is not offered in a colorway that I would usually get but it was so pretty, I had to share it here. This one has a rich, milky orange red (it literally reminds me of tomato soup) with a gorgeous abstracted flower pattern in a low contrast brown/tan. The tag says it is red/black but it definitely looked brownish tan in the showroom. The pattern on this is so beautiful! I wish they offered it in a cool colorway… like green and blue. Still, if you’re doing warm tones in your house this would be an awesome choice.

Have a great week! I hope your Monday is like a Friday! See you tomorrow. πŸ™‚
