Space, The Final Frontier

image

Closets. Can’t live with ’em, can’t live without ’em. Everyone, and I mean everyone has to store their clothes somewhere. The question is, then, where to store, how to store, and what to store in.

I’m fairly organized. No, I’m not a neat freak. I just hate digging through piles just to pick something to wear. My clothes storage could be prettier though. I bought wood hangers at IKEA for only $4/8pack, then tossed out all my mismatched metal and plastic ones. But I still need baskets, shoe boxes, and organizers for small items like socks, lingerie, and accessories. But it could be even better if I actually prettied up the closet itself.

So, I’ve been on the hunt for inspiration and these pics are what I found. I like the use of wallpaper or paint to give a closet some color and someplace to sit to put on shoes… or just to take a break from trying on a dozen outfits.

Well, I’m going to stop rambling on and keep searching for ideas to make my closet more lovely to look at. What kind of things have you done in your closet to make it easier on the eyes?

Be You Now.

I got a comment on a post a few days back that led me to the blog of Jaclyn Rae. Her blog is a mix of musings on faith, life, and art and features some really interesting art and photography to support the post contents. I was blown away by this young lady’s commitment to God, to living life, and to herself… I was inspired to remember that to be oneself is not just OK, but essential to one’s health and peace of mind.

I’m committing myself to being the best me I can be – from the inside out – without being afraid of what people around me might say. To following through on the promises I make myself for a better more peaceful life.

Life is a journey on which we all have to find our way. So, don’t wait for the approval of the crowd… Be you. Now.

p.s. – I wasn’t able to find the tumblr blog referenced in the photo… or I would have posted a link.

Blog Love: A Perfect Gray

I stumbled across A Perfect Gray… well, I don’t quite remember how but I’ve been lurking there for the past two days. Nearly every picture on this gorgeous blog features the color gray. While it might be easy to believe that nothing but gray interiors would be boring, I can assure you it’s not. If anything it has been something of an adventure discovering just how versatile gray is!

I am really in love with gray and have been for about the last year or so. So, it was really a pleasure to come across this blog – it is truly inspirational! Also, while reading some of the entries on A Perfect Gray, I was introduced to the blog Greige. I haven’t had a chance to look at it in depth yet because I’m still caught up with all the wonderful stuff on A Perfect Gray. I hope you all enjoy them both as much as I am!

Once upon a time if you looked at my wardrobe all you’d find was black, white, and blue. Yes, sadly, I dressed for years in third day bruise colors. Then at some point I decided that I kinda liked pink. Then purple. For a while every article of clothing I bought was some brilliant shade of green. Eventually, I even succumbed to the mother of all bold colors, that femme fatale, red. Now, I can’t get enough of anything gray… All this to say, that I’m a fairly recent fan of color.

A couple of colors that I’d never thought I’d ever have a jones for, no matter how deeply enmeshed in the color wheel I became, are orange and yellow. They just never did anything for me. They kind seemed a little too much color (this is comimg from a girl who swore she’d never be caught in red!). Orange still doesn’t do a thing for me… But yellow? I’m definitely coming around.

Don’t worry, Orange, I’m sure I’ll come around.

I was looking through my inspiration file and I ran across the pic at the top of an entryway using IKEA’s Stockholm sofa table. I’ve seen and admired the table in the store many times but wasn’t really sure how to put an entry together. But looking at the photo gave me some ideas… so, here’s what I came up with:

IKEA Stockholm sofa table – IKEA
Chantilly Vines mirror – Anthropologie
Flora jute rug – Jonathan Adler
Ghost Tree coat rack – Erich Ginder
Mid-century ceramic lamps – FabulousMess (on Etsy)
Ceramic Lamp – West Elm (as a mass produced alternative)
Porcelain hippo – Rose and Radish

I’d paint the wall behind it a rich dark grey with a brown tone to it. Hippo would go under the table, along with a basket for shoes. A leather tray in a camel color would look nice on top.

What do think? Can you see these pieces working together?
