Small Can Do

Wow. You want to talk about a success story? How about Zach Motl, an actor turned interior designer. His 178 sq. ft. (!) apartment was featured in the New York Times… after landing a gig with prestigious design firm, Robert Couturier & Associates, without the requisite experience (three years design experience and AutoCAD) for the job. How? He showed them what he’d done to his apartment. That’s can do!

Blue Monday

I had a super low key weekend… you know the kind where you watch every movie you own while making all that popcorn stock you bought really work for you? Seriously though, when I wasn’t loafing around, I was looking for some blue rooms to inspire myself and you with. Have a happy Monday!

A beautiful, rich, dark blue room. I’d love to know who designed it!

Interior from the new Architectural Digest with Margaret Russell editing! Wow. If this is any indicator of what’s to com from AD… I might have to subscribe!

A Vicente Wolf room. I love that canopied daybed with all the blue cushions!

JK Hotel from Lonny Magazine. Blue, black, and cream is starting to seem like a never fail combo! I love the big wing chairs and glossy black accents.

This soft Robin’s Egg blue lacquered living room is a standout.

A Miles Redd living room also with lacquered walls. I love the mix here of blue, brown, black, cream, and red. This room looks really livable doesn’t it?

Kelly Wearstler hotel restaurant design. Does she ever fail to knock a room out of the ballpark?

One day my bedroom will look this good…

Inspired by this bedroom (which I found out, after drooling over it for awhile, was designed by Miles Redd)… some pretty things I’d like to have for my dream bedroom.

Farrow & Ball – The Lotus Papers wallpaper
Carini Lang – Mums silk rug
Anthropologie – Italian Campaign canopy bed
John Reeves – Louis Side tables
West Elm – Fluted Glass Lamps (in the iridescent grey color with custom shades)
Atmosphere print – JKLDesign (@Etsy)
Viviana print – Sandra Suy on (@Etsy)
Manon Lescaut bust

Still on the lookout for the perfect bedding, though I’m a fan of Dwell Studio, Thomas O’Brien for Target, and, occasionally, Anthropologie’s bed linens… I need ideas for a cool lamp shade fabric too. Have you got any suggestions for my pink, grey, and silver dream room?

Miles Redd + Oscar de la Renta

The more I see Miles Reed’s work, the more and more impressed I become with his amazing ability to pile as much drama and color as possible into a room without making it look like a garish mess. He makes Kelly Wearstler seem restrained, if you can believe it! I adore his work.

Here is a link to a “behind the scenes” look at his revamp of the Oscar de la Renta showroom (over at Lonny Magazine’s blog on Posterous). As always, Redd knocks another stellar design out, and makes it look so homey that anyone could do it. That is talent!

Inspiration.
