NaNoWriMo

That title kinda looks like gibberish, doesn’t it? I promise it’s not! For the uninitiated that impossible looking acronym is shorthand for National Novel Writing Month. Every year from November 1-30, people all over the world write a whole novel in one month. A first draft of a novel but a novel, nevertheless.

I’ve participated since 2006 or so. I wasn’t going to do it this year but last night, two days and roughly 3600 words behind schedule, I decided to jump in anyway. One, it didn’t feel right not to. Two, seeing many of my friends posting their word counts spurred me on. So, I decided that I should just go ahead and do it. I signed up and started writing last night.

I’m not going to hedge: I’ve never finished. For various reasons. Some years I gave up after my idea fizzled out. Other years I was in target and some extreme life circumstances intervene. This year, I’m not making myself any crazy promises. I also have the added challenge of attempting to write my minimum 50,000 words on my smartphone (the only word processor/computer I have) while also keeping up with this blog…

Still, I’m going to try. I’d rather fail, than not put myself out there. And who knows? Maybe this year I’ll finish when my own expectations are lowest. (That sounded bad, didn’t it? LOL! I just mean not pressuring myself so much that I crack.)

Happy Thursday, all. All my finds for the week tomorrow (including the promised DwellStudio bling). Until then… 🙂

NaNoWriMo.

nano_09_blk_participant_120x240_pngThis month is National Novel Writing Month or NaNoWriMo. The goal of NaNoWriMo is to write a 50,000 word novel during the thirty days of November. You write roughly 1,667 words a day to stay on goal.

I am participating again as I have every year for the past couple of years. Because of that I probably won’t be posting a lot of stuff on crocheting or other yarn related things. I am still giving my Mom’s sweater a go. Nearly finished too… Only the left sleeve to be done. I’ll get to that this weekend.

In the meantime… if there is anyone out there actually reading my blog (I have deep moments of doubt about that!) the reason I’m so terribly inconsistent of late is that I’m NaNo-ing.

Happy writing to those who are doing the do. Happy crocheting, knitting, felting, or weaving to the rest!

Too many projects…

So, I don’t know if anyone else goes through this but I’ve got quite a few projects going. Right now it’s stands at about four or five (I think… I’m not even sure of the count. How sad is that?) and I’m not sure how I’m going to finish them all between my work schedule and the incipient month of grueling writing that is about to ensue (National Novel Writing Month).

My Mom will be here in November as well and I’ve got a cardi to finish for her…

I’ve got that cardi for my friend Jen…

Baby booties for my new nephew, Gabe and for my co-worker Johnny’s baby girl (she’s still on the way)…

A pair of “Turkish” slippers that I think might be for me…

And a little tike cardi for my niece, Taylor…

Plus:

Fingerless gloves for my cousin, Connie…

A pullover for my cousin, Keon…

A hat and scarf set for my brother, Ronald…

And a cape or shawl (I haven’t decided which because I can’t find a pattern I like) for my sister-in-law, Bobby Jean…

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

Help?

I guess it’s just about plugging away until you get to the end. Better keep that in mind when NaNo comes around in oh… 11 days.
