Neutrals + Lilac + Orange

image

Ralph Lauren Paints in (left to right): Palais Royal, Washboard, Oatmeal, Spring Violet, Bold Orange.

I was surfing around for something else (isn’t that the way it always is?) and discovered this lovely palette of black, gray, cream, lilac, and dark orange from The Pink Couch blog. The colors seem really fresh and current… even though the blogs author picked this palette two autumns ago! In the spirit of this awesome combination of colors, I’m sharing some of my fave rooms and pieces featuring these colors.

Top Row: Calluna Vase/Crate&Barrel, DIY chairs/BHG, Close rug/Christopher Farr, Tod Table/Zanotta.
Second Row: Benson chair/Anthropologie, Flynn lamp/Arteriors, Hee tray coffee table/A+R, Azure Sofa/Crate&Barrel.
Third Row: Hard Candy in Tangerine/Brentano Fabrics, office chair/Windsor Smith, DIY Le French dresser/Wary Meyers, Amethyst Marbled fabric/Domesticate.
Bottom Row: Drop stool/Zuo Modern, Watercolor Drops fabric/Domesticate, Purple & Black boxes/A Lille Shop, Slim Round end table/Room&Board.

One of my favorite things about this scheme is that it is truly unique. You’re not going to find it everywhere like you might with classic combos like black and white, yellow and blue, etc. It would take a lot of thought and careful searching for just the right pieces to pull it off. I love that kind of challenge!

I hope you’ve got some color in your Monday everyone! Tomorrow is another totally inspiring room. 🙂

Got Rug? (The IKEA Edition)

If you’ve been following me for a bit, you know that I’m really picky about rugs. I find that lower end rugs tend lack the kind of style that I crave in a floor covering. So yesterday, after I got off work, I headed over to the textiles area at IKEA. I have to admit that textiles has become my favorite section at IKEA these days. They’ve got some really great stuff this year (a plethora of totally on trend items in purple/lavender being chief among them… but I digress). Anywho, I’m decided to see if they’d put any new rug styles up yet…

Whoa. I was struck by three styles in particular:

image
Gandrup rug (78″x118) IKEA – $299.

Graphic, black, gray, cream, and gold rug featuring stripes overlaid with an abstract daisy pattern. Love the chic color combo here! The really cool thing about this rug is that the color and pattern are crisp and clean, not murky or or muted like some IKEA rugs can be.

image
Broager rug (63″x94″) IKEA – $249.

This rug looks like a really cool gray in my pic (because of the lighting in the store) but is actually a warm, gray-brown with ivory flower sprays in the pattern. It is really lovely and soft in person. This would make a great choice for someone who wanted something with a feminine but clean edge to it.

Skoghall rug (78″x118″) IKEA – $249

The last rug is not offered in a colorway that I would usually get but it was so pretty, I had to share it here. This one has a rich, milky orange red (it literally reminds me of tomato soup) with a gorgeous abstracted flower pattern in a low contrast brown/tan. The tag says it is red/black but it definitely looked brownish tan in the showroom. The pattern on this is so beautiful! I wish they offered it in a cool colorway… like green and blue. Still, if you’re doing warm tones in your house this would be an awesome choice.

Have a great week! I hope your Monday is like a Friday! See you tomorrow. 🙂

Mirror, Mirror

image

I just picked up the July/August issue of Elle Decor. I’d sort of flipped through it at the grocery store and I wanted to pick it up for the amazing photos in an article called Swept Away that features gold and brass bath fittings. Trust me. You HAVE to see that one!

But the feature that had me drooling was a Manhattan apartment decorated by Steven Gambrel. There is this amazing mirror in the main entry that just blew me away. It’s a vintage, hand carved Italian piece and it looks smashing in the foyer, dont you think?

Another favorite piece is the Scratchout rug by Carini Lang in the home’s family room. It looks amazing with the mix of neutrals and that fabulous orange.

See the whole apartment at Steven Gambrel’s site and drink in the amazing awesomeness of this place!

Rustic Elegance

I am totally in love with gray right now and I’ve always been a fan of mixing luxe items with rustic or industrial pieces. So, today I bring you some of my favorite recent finds in gray, both industrial and luxurious.

So, rugs…

I kinda have a love/hate with them. See, rugs can be really cool. Frequently they are not. When I see a rug that is a) cool, b) colorful, and c) wallet friendly… well, do I even need to say anything about happy dances?

So, why ( you may well ask) are you on about rugs, Jo? I just got CB2’s new catalog and there are some serious charmers in it.

Above, in order:
Dangerous Liaisons
Tango
Doce Caras
The Way You Move

Now that’s more like it!
