Winter Jewels

So… winter is upon us. Literally! The freak snowstorm in the Northeast over the weekend is a sure indicator of the onset of winter. Here in Charlotte we certainly felt the effects of the severe weather our northern cousins faced when our overnight temperatures dipped into the 30’s and 40’s.

For a lot of people, once the beauty of fall color is over, the late fall and winter can be a hard time to get through. Sometimes the simple bare majesty of the winter world is hard to appreciate… that’s why I love when winter fashion eschews muted, earthy tones for vibrant brights like the ones Talbots is offering currently.

Their line of bold jewel tones mixed with black in simple, classic shapes is a sure way to see any woman happily through the bleak months of winter. There are really a nice range of pieces from blingy earrings to full length wool coats to help you spice up your wardrobe. I’ve got my eye on the cropped Duchesse satin pants and the double faced wool skirt and jacket. But there is a little bit of something for everyone to add a little dash of brightness to the oncoming winter.

Happy Halloween, everyone! I hope you have a fun filled Monday, whether you celebrate or not!

Winter blahs…

1257711931I’m from Seattle originally but for the past 10 years I’ve lived in So Cal and the Southeast. Sun is now my “thing”. The turn in the weather this last week and a half is giving me SAD I think! So, to perk myself up I’m posting my favorite picture from this summer.

I was walking down Pac Hwy toward my local library and I saw the most amazing thing: a bush of fully blooming hydrangeas with a random rusty mailbox poking through the blooms… but what really made it strange was that the bush and mailbox are situated in front of a vacant lot with a fence around it. No house or building in sight.

I thought it was lovely and I snapped it on my camera phone so I could remember how sweet and random it was when I most needed it. Winter.

That time is upon us. I sometimes wish I could skip all this cold and dark and straight to the sweet spot of summer… but alas, I have no time warping capabilities. I guess I have to live through it and make lots of sweaters!
